Hola guys!! Welcome to the armour of Aletheia.

Each and every one of us have heard some sort of music while spending our lives on earth. So today I Curiman will be diving into the world of music and try to understand the magical powers music possess.

Kahlil Gibran once said, “Music is the language of the spirit. It opens the secret of life bringing peace, abolishing strife.” And you know what he was right. Today researchers have found that music is just not sounds that are pleasing to our ears but are more than that, music has a very strong impact on a person who listens to it. Music has been part of human culture for a very long time and by very long time I mean… even before proper language was invented. Archaeologists have found a bone flute that is around 40,000 years old, believed to be made by Neanderthals our human cousins.  Many ancient civilizations believed that music was not earthly but heavenly creation. This proves music has been with man for a very long time and still exists and flourishes at its full glory. If the man still makes and enjoys music then definitely it's very important to man.

This universal connection of man with music had encouraged researchers to understand music and its impact on man and the results were quite astonishing. It was found that Children trained in music and playing musical instruments could cope with their day-to-day life problems in a better way and they also turned out to be better listeners. Researchers today undoubtedly say that music has a huge impact on our mental health and wellbeing.

A 2011 study stated that music enhances the production of dopamine a mood-enhancing hormone, making music a treatment for depression. Even patients suffering from the last stage of Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s would start moving\ dancing or even remember the lyrics when their favourite song was played. Many Alzheimer’s patients could even recall a few of their memories.

The following videos show how effective music therapy is in Alzheimer’s patients.

Music has also been very effective in healing brain injuries and has also proved effective among people with attention deficit disorders. Music is rhythm, rhythm is structure, and structure is soothing to an ADHD brain struggling to regulate itself to stay on a linear path, that structure helps a child with ADHD plan, anticipate, and react. “Nothing activates the brain so extensively as music,” said the late Oliver Sacks, M.D., neurologist.

*If you have ADHD, here’s a doctors approved music therapy audio.*

Music not just has healing powers but as we all know it also has communicating powers. Music is a great medium for conveying information. It allows people to exchange feelings, intents, and meanings even if their spoken languages are incomprehensible to each other. Music can have a strong bodily effect on us as well as elicit deep and profound emotions. Songs have the power to convey emotions which may have been difficult to convey otherwise else. Human emotions are very complex yet Music conveys and responds to what is deep inside the human soul. The musician conveys emotions and innermost feelings, which are universal and are experienced by all in one way or the other.
Now if you don’t believe me, here’s a female cover of the Hindi song “yeh pal”.

You can thank me in the comment box for recommending you this amazing cover later.

So, moving on Music also created a sense of unity among people, Music has long been used by movements seeking social change. ... In fact, music long assisted those working to win civil rights for African Americans. Freedom songs, often adapted from the music of the black church, played an essential role bolstering courage, inspiring participation, and fostering a sense of community. Freedom struggles all across the world had some kind of music involved. From “Bella ciao” in Italy to "We Shall Overcome" in American civil rights were historic songs that encouraged people to unite and fight for their rights.

Richard Wagner once said, “Music is the universal language.” and you may already know about this. We humans don’t need to know a language to enjoy a song in a language we may be alien to. The best example of this is the song “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi- “Despacito” is one of the most successful Latin songs in history, The song was on a number-one hit for 16 weeks in 2017. MUSIC IS NOT BOUND BY LANGUAGE, it’s like a pleasant wind, blows everywhere freely.

Along with all these powers music also has the power to show what is the mentality of the people in a particular community. Since music has a huge impact on culture, the culture also has a huge impact on music. The particular music a community makes or listens helps us to know a lot about the people from that community. Music has been used by various communities to show how unique they are- for example, “Jazz” was a core part of African American community, For some African Americans, jazz has drawn attention to African-American contributions to culture and history. For others, jazz is a reminder of an oppressive and racist society and restrictions on their artistic visions. Similarly, music also shows what people in a particular community wants or thinks- for example, most of the Bollywood movies today have the so-called “item number” which degrade and objectify women, and these songs are super hit even though the particular movie is a huge box office flop. This clearly shows the mentality of the majority in a particular society. I am not here to insult someone or a society but just pointing out certain facts.

See, no matter what, each and every one of us is connected to the universal truth of music. Music is proved to be powerful and life-changing for thousands of people. Now all I want to ask from you is to listen to your favourite songs every day because Music is structural, mathematical and architectural. It’s based on relationships between one note and the next. You may not be aware of it, but your brain has to do a lot of computing to make sense of it. Music can do wonders in your life, and as BOB MARLEY said, “One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain”.

Hey guys, I Curiman welcome you all back to "ARMOR OF ALETHEIA"!

Before starting, I have 2 questions for all you readers-
Do you consider Hitler to be a good man?
Would you consider it acceptable if a man cheats to win a game?

I know most of you must be thinking, "what kinda silly questions are those?". I know...I know the answers to those questions may be pretty obvious. Most of you may even have the same answers- "Hitler is definitely a bad guy, and that man is a cheater and should be punished."

So, now let's get to the actual question, is "morality" objective or subjective. let's define what the words morality, objective and subjective really mean. "MORALITY- a belief through which you determine what is right and what is wrong", "OBJECTIVE- anything which is universal in nature and is NOT affected by human perception is objective", "SUBJECTIVE- anything which is based on or influenced by personal feelings or emotions is called subjective". Now that we know what these terms mean, let us try to find some answers.

Philosophers and thinkers for millennia have argued if morality is objective or not, and this question is just not restricted to morality but also to "ART", "BEAUTY", AND "ETHICS". The problem here is that none of us can conclude if these things are objective or subjective.
If you call morality to be subjective then by default you are agreeing to the fact that crimes like murder, rape, sexual abuse, etc... are not objectively wrong. Hitler killing jews was perfectly right and good according to him and the majority of Germans who supported nazis in those times. So, will that make the genocide a good thing? definitely not, right. But the question is how did we come to a conclusion of what is good and what is bad? Many of you may say that we may have collectively agreed that what hurts us or others is bad and what doesn't is good, so, is abortion good or bad- you are technically taking a life but denying it is also taking away a women's right to a healthy life.. you see the problem here is if morality is subjective it would create chaos. But for morality to be objective there must be GOD.

I quote Ravi Zecharia- " When you say there’s too much evil in this world you assume there’s good. When you assume there’s good, you assume there’s such a thing as a moral law on the basis of which to differentiate between good and evil. But if you assume a moral law, you must posit a moral Law Giver, but that’s Who you’re trying to disprove and not prove. Because if there’s no moral Law Giver, there’s no moral law. If there’s no moral law, there’s no good. If there’s no good, there’s no evil."  If morality has to be objective it has to be something that is outside of us humans, it should not be affected by our thoughts and beliefs. Even athiest like RICHARD DAWKINS agrees that morality can't be objective without GOD and hence, he had to say that there's no good, bad, right, wrong, or evil. The moment you say there's no evil you are justifying all the crimes as not evil but something the person committing the crime thought was right. This doesn't mean that an athiest cannot live a moral life it just means that an athiest cannot justify objective morality without GOD.

The thing is if we study history and our surroundings properly, we'll understand that objective morality is something that affects all of us. For example- Hitler had to first dehumanize jews through his speeches to make himself and others believe that the genocide was right for the nation, During the Holocaust, Nazis referred to Jews as rats. Similarly, Hutus involved in the Rwanda genocide called Tutsis cockroaches. Slave owners throughout history considered slaves subhuman animals. In Less Than Human, David Livingstone Smith argues that it's important to define and describe dehumanization because it's what opens the door for cruelty and genocide. Here, you can clearly see that this dehumanization helps the oppressor to think that he is doing the right thing, but killing is still morally wrong. The law of morality still remains the same.

CONCLUSION

Morality has to be objective for the systematic function of society, Morality requires us to avoid doing bad things, again, by definition. Hence we all have a moral duty not to harm other living things. This moral duty exists objectively because harm exists objectively. Just as 1 + 1 = 2 is objectively true, so “we should not harm other living things” is objectively true. The only question here is what/who decides "to harm" is bad, it's definitely not us because if it's we who decide it, morality becomes subjective(an individual's perspective) and if morality is subjective then there's morally no crime or evil in this world.

Welcome to "Armour of Aletheia." You might be wondering what "Armour of Aletheia" even means. No worries, I’m here to explain. Aletheia is a Greek term meaning truth (something which isn’t hidden). So, the name of our blog literally means "the armour of TRUTH." By this, I don’t mean that what I say is the only truth. No, it’s not. I just want us to question what we think is true.

To kick things off, let's start with an amazing philosophical statement: "I think, therefore I am." This statement was made by RenĂ© Descartes, a famous philosopher (P.S. – he looks like a grumpy child who dropped his ice cream).

Okay, ladies and gentlemen, let’s begin with a joke (this joke sucks). So, Descartes went into a bar, and the bartender asks him, "Would you like a drink?" Descartes replies, "I think not," and he vanishes out of existence (poof). Ahh, this is so funny... I can't stop laughing (okay, sorry, I know it was a terrible joke).

Jokes aside, let’s talk some serious business now. I don’t know about you, but I have often looked into the mirror and asked questions like, "Am I me?", "Why do I think like this?", "What does all this mean?" and (drum rolls) the craziest of them all, "Why am I always hungry?" (Forgive me again; only the first three should be considered appropriate questions. Of course, no one cares if a teenager is always hungry).

I am a very curious human, so I call myself a curiman (curious + human... you get it now?). I ask questions and search for answers which may or may not be real. Now you might think, "Why is this guy even searching for answers which may not be real? It’s just a waste of time." I mean, yeah, you are right, but what makes you think you are reading this blog of your own will? You might be controlled by me to forcefully read this (don’t worry, I can’t control your mind; I wish I could).

Some answers we find are just for the satisfaction of our souls. Some truths are very personal, too personal for anyone else to understand. IT’S OUR OWN PERSONAL TRUTH. No matter what, those truths remain with us. We can hide them from ourselves, but for how long? Sometimes we have trouble accepting these truths, and you know what the best part is? There's no choice. Someday you have to accept these truths (yeah, I know it sucks, but believe me, it feels good once you accept them).

I believe the most disturbing part about our life is our ability to lie to ourselves. These lies help us feel good (I know feeling good feels amazing), but the problem is we start building our lives around these lies. And you know what happens when you do that? You create a fake truth which suppresses your real truth. Now you might think, "Buddy, nothing like fake truth exists." Okay, let me explain. Fake truths are those lies which you think are true, like "I am an idiot," "I can't do it," "No one loves me," etc., etc. I hope you get the context.

Many people live their whole lives believing in these lies and end up suppressing their truths. When they finally realize the truth, it might be too late, and they regret it. I’m not saying you have a fixed path to follow or a destiny to achieve. I just mean stop lying to yourself, because what you believe slowly becomes your reality (yeah, you have your own reality stone in your mind... wait, that would make it a mind stone controlling your reality. Ahh, okay, really sorry for drifting away again).

So, keep questioning yourself, because it helps you stay in check and sometimes helps you accept bitter truths. When I question my life, I doubt my life (people say self-doubt is bad, but I believe it helps us explore our lives). And when I doubt, I think... "AND BECAUSE I THINK, THEREFORE I AM."

(If you have read this whole thing, I guess I might have some mind-controlling psychic powers ;}).
